Back pain, a big problem for office workers

Lower Back Pain in the OfficeIt is now a well known fact that poor posture from sitting at a computer can lead to back pain which is far more severe than pain due to heavy lifting from manual work.

Information from the British Chiropractic Association suggests that one third of the population in the UK suffers from back pain at some point, which is simply due to ‘day to day’ repetitive routines caused from an office working environment.

Bad posture that causes back problems can be put down to the following activities:

  1. Hunching over computer keyboards
  2. Holding the phone between the ear and shoulder
  3. Inactivity from lack of moving about the office

A survey carried out on 2,374 people by the BCA identified that 59% of the working population in the UK sits down all day at work and 50% do not leave their desk for lunch.

This survey has highlighted what has been known by the chiropractic industry for some time; that a lack of movement causes stress on the back and that while lifting and carrying are still back pain triggers it is actually less physically demanding jobs that are causing the working population the most problems.

Posture at your desk can be improved by using the Dynaspine Back Support, which encourages movement whilst in the seated position and provides much needed support. Take a look at our Dynaspine Lower Back Support page for more details.
