Rugby World Cup 2011This year’s Rugby World Cup is the seventh tournament of its kind.  The 2011 World Cup is being held in New Zealand and has become the largest sporting event ever to be held in the country.  Over the seven week tournament, organisers are expecting 95,000 visitors to travel to New Zealand for the event.  20 teams are competing for the title, including England.

England got their World Cup campaign off to a good start by beating Argentina: 13 – 9 and then Georgia: 41 - 10. Their next match is against Romania on Saturday 24th September, with the final group match against Scotland coming up on Saturday 1st October.  Due to the timing of most matches (early am), many of us will be watching the tournament from the comfort of our own homes, but this can often lead to lower back pain.  Read on to find out how.

Don’t slump in your chair!

Quite often, when we’re watching TV at home, we slump in our chairs to make ourselves feel more comfortable.  However, this can actually be causing damage to important back muscles!  A recent study carried out by the Adelaide Centre for Spinal Research in Australia found that when we slump, we hold our back muscles in a static position, and this lack of movement weakens the muscles.  By weakening our back muscles, the spine has less protection and support for when the back does become active again.  This often leads to back injuries such as sprains and strains.

BackCare, a UK based charity that provides a wealth of information on how to keep the back healthy said that many people often forget to think about their back when they get home; "lots of us are very careful to look after our posture and how we lift things at work and then forget all about it at home."

There are ways of preventing yourself from slumping in your chair during this Rugby World Cup tournament.  Try the Dynaspine Back Support, it’s a lightweight, durable and dynamic lower back support that fits onto most chairs.  Dynaspine is different to other back supports on the market in that it promotes movement of the back muscles, helping to keep them strong so they can provide the support that the spine needs.  Dynaspine usually costs £79.99, but we’ve reduced the price for the Rugby World Cup.  See details below…
